Thou Shall Not Kill

Thou Shall Not Kill is one of the 10 Commandments in the most widely read and followed scripture "The Bible". Over the years I have had conversations with several people who claim this commandment means - "You should not kill your fellow human being, but killing of animals and consuming their flesh is allowed." I have always responded that The Bible does not say so, it simply states - Thou shall not kill. It does not elaborate any further, whether you should not kill your fellow human-being, or your fellow animal-being.

Sow and Reap

On Sow and Reap, The Bible highlights: For whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone.
So what does this mean: For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption? When we consume flesh of animals, is that flesh not going into our own flesh, and will that flesh not reap corruption. Or, in simpler words, will that flesh not corrupt our body and be responsible for various diseases, ailments, and ultimately death? It is a known fact that majority of the modern diseases are the direct result of meat eating.
And what does this mean: As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. When we consume meats, do we not directly or indirectly become responsible for killing of those animals? So are we doing good to everyone including ourselves and Animals?

Did we sow the seeds of Ebola?

Ebola began when people consumed Bush -Meat that was infected and not well cooked. The way this killer disease has spread and is still spreading, the way people are dying and infecting others, it is about time we seriously think about the grave consequences of eating meats. Looking at the news and videos coming out from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the sufferings of people infected by Ebola are way beyond anyone's imagination. Family heads are being wiped out by this killer disease, leaving behind children who may or may not be infected, but they are being left out on their own completely disowned by their relatives and neighbors. Imagine the plight and fear of someone who is infected with Ebola. And then take a step further, imagine the plight and fear of an Animal who is about to be slaughtered for human consumption.

Thou Shall Not Kill and the Law of Sow and Reap

Thou shall not kill and the law of sow and reap are two very important and inter-related laws that we need to sit down patiently and try to understand. We definitely reap whatever we sow, there are no two ways about this harsh truth. Good seeds or good deeds bear good fruit, while bad seeds or bad deeds obviously bear bad fruit. A seed of Banana will bring forth a Banana, so what will a seed of Killing bring forth? When we become responsible for the killing of an animal, that becomes our seed, and one day, we also will be killed. And frankly, Ebola is doing just that. The only difference is that Ebola kills in a just a few days, while the other meats lead to death at a slower rate. With Ebola the body organs begin to malfunction in a relatively short period, while the other meats make them malfunction over a longer period.
I believe it is about time for everyone to give serious thoughts to this most important commandment in The Bible - Thou Shall Not Kill, and also study well the Law of Sow and Reap. It is said, when God created Adam, he also created the plant and animal kingdom. The plants and fruits were what Adam was to consume, while the Animals were meant to be his companions, and he personally gave a name to all of them. Now, would we ever think of consuming the flesh of our companions?

If Slaughter Houses had Glass Walls

Paul McCartney, the famous ex-Beatle says: If Slaughter Houses had Glass Walls, everyone would become Vegetarian. He himself became a vegetarian over 25 years ago when one day while fishing he realized he was killing it. And then something clicked inside him as he saw the fish fight for breath, that its life was as important as his own.

There is an extremely thought provoking and factual video on Animals that you can watch by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. These are things we see or rather fail to see, or even accept they exist, but this is the true picture of how Animals are treated and then slaughtered for meat consumption. After watching this, you would certainly agree with Paul McCartney, "If Slaughter Houses had Glass Walls, everyone would become Vegetarian."

People often justify meat eating by claiming that their bodies need Protein to function properly. The fact is you do not need to eat meat for protein, as many vegetables, nuts, fruits, and legumes have all the protein you need. Look at the Elephant who has such a huge body, or look at the Horse who always keeps standing and is one of the strongest animals. Would you be surprised to know, they both are Vegetarians.

The choice obviously is yours - to follow the commandment - Thou shall not kill, or not to follow, and continue with consumption of flesh. After all only you are responsible for the seeds that you sow, as only you will bear the fruit when the harvest time arrives, and one day it will definitely arrive.

Finally, here is some more food for thought: What does Ebola stand for, does it mean: Eating Bushmeat or Loving Animals? The choice is entirely yours: You can either eat meats or love animals by becoming a Vegetarian. Eating Bushmeat could one day result in instant organ failure and death with Ebola, while eating other meats will also result in organ failure, but at a slower pace.

Bill Clinton, the most famous and successful American President in history, switched to a vegetarian diet in 2010 after two major heart surgeries. His new diet excludes all meat, dairy, and eggs, and almost all oil. Because of it, he's lost 20 pounds. "All my blood tests are good, and my vital signs are good, and I feel good, and I also have, believe it or not, more energy," Clinton told to CNN.

As I said earlier, the choice is entirely yours. You could either wait like Bill Clinton for heart surgeries or other organ failures, or become a Vegetarian and not only reverse the damage, but also feel good and have more energy.
